Wildlife walks and excursions

The natural environment is the essence of the tourist experience in the Falkland Islands. Best known for penguins, visitors always enjoy the antics of these birds both at sea and on shore. Majestic kings, feisty rockhoppers, gentoo and Magellanic penguins can be seen on shore excursions from Stanley but you need to be sure to choose carefully if a particular species is important to you. Click here to find out more. Gypsy Cove is situated just a few miles from central Stanley and is home to a Magellanic penguin colony plus a variety of other flora and fauna.

Fourteen species of marine mammals have been recorded in Falkland waters. A trip out of Stanley to Berkeley Sound affords the opportunity to try to spot some of these at sea with spectacular blows often exhibited by various species of baleen whale. Peale's and Commerson's dolphins regularly accompany boats.

Wildlife experiences are guaranteed and with a lack of viewing platforms and physical barriers in many locations, the up-close-and-personal experience is second to none. Independent guides offer walking and vehicle tours in the Stanley area as well as vehicle tours to places further afield or check the list on offer directly from your cruise vessel.
