The Falkland Islands have a rich history embracing maritime trade, missionary links, Darwinian discoveries and participation in the two World Wars. Memorials and reminders of the 1982 conflict feature significantly, but there is much more to discover about the heritage of the Islands. Links with sealers, whalers, explorers and South American indigenous people have helped to shape the culture, as well as the natural environment of today's Falklands.
Tours of Stanley can be customised to focus on historical features and include a visit to the Britannia Museum and Cartmell Cottage. Choose to travel by vehicle or on foot as you prefer. Visitors with more time on their hands may wish to enquire about trips further afield on East Falkland but be sure that your trip can be accommodated within the time available to return for the last ship’s tender.
Specialised history tours can be booked in advance on some cruise vessels.
