Four nights catered and self catering - suitable for a family or small group
Highlights: culture and heritage (farm life, 1982 memorials); wildlife; scenic coastline; outdoor activities (hiking, fishing)
Day one (suggested accommodation - self catering Little Chartres, Fox Bay, Port Edgar):
Catch the ferry from New Haven to Port Howard and continue to your chosen overnight destination. Settle in to your accommodation and explore the surroundings.
Day two (suggested accommodation - self catering Little Chartres, Fox Bay, Port Edgar):
Ask your hosts about guided tours, day trips and activities in the area. Each has its own distinct charm with things to do ranging from mini golf and rare flora/fauna around Little Chartres, Warrah Design and a 1982 memorial at Fox Bay, fishing and shearing demonstrations (at selected times of the year) at Port Edagr. All offer good walking opportunites.
Day three: (suggested accommodation - Hill Cove Farm or Shallow Bay self catering cottage):
For a change of scenery head northwards and experience farm life with Shelley and Peter Nightingale or chill out in the old stone cottage at Shallow Bay.
Day four: (suggested accommodation - Port Howard Lodge or self catering cottages):
Round off your tour with a night in Port Howard. Whilst there, take a short stroll around the settlement, visit the small museum, or if you have arrived early you may choose to take a farm tour or a hike up Mount Maria - the third highest peak in the islands.
Day five:
Take the ferry to New Haven for the drive home, not forgetting that meals and snacks can be purchased from Goose Green Galley Cafe or Darwin House.
Variations:
Mix and match the first two nights with different locations. Stay an extra night in the Hill Cove / Shallow Bay area rather than transferring to Port Howard but be sure to allow plenty of drive time to get to the ferry the next day.
Concordia Bay ferry crossings: Currently every Friday, Sunday and every second Wednesday are set aside for ferry crossings barring one Friday in every six which is set aside for South East island deliveries.
