Getting Around the Falkland Islands

Travelling around the Islands is part of the visitor experience whether it is by road, sea or air.

4WD vehicles (SUVs) are the norm for on and off road travel everywhere in the Islands. Gravel roads link settlements and farms on East and West Falkland. "Off-roading" into the Camp (countryside) is an experience generally enjoyed by visitors and quite different from "off-roading" elsewhere in the World. Come and find out for yourself!

A ferry links East and West Falkland; the journey lasts approximately two hours across Falkland Sound. For the nautically inclined a variety of boat trips can be arranged from Stanley and the Carcass Island – West Point day trip on the "Condor" is an unforgettable voyage.

Air travel is operated by the Falkland Island Government Air Service (FIGAS). The smart, red Britten Norman Islander aircraft fly to tourist destinations around the archipelago. Your pilot is also your baggage handler and wildlife-spotter whilst delivering post and news to the West and outlying Islands. Round-robins and scenic flights are options for those with only a short time in the Islands.

An international Travel Agent or Falklands-based tour operator can make all the arrangements for you if you wish. Local guides offer a range of land-based tours.
